Saw V Movie Review

Getting you ready for Saw VI . . .

More like, "What the hell..." instead of "You won't believe how it ends."

So yet again, another installment opens up with the synonymous-with-Saw quote, "Hello Seth. I want to play a game." However, just like Hollywood actresses, it may look enticing and intriguing on the outside, but after spending a few minutes with it, it not only goes down hill, it skydives like the DOW. Don't get me wrong, the first ten to twenty minutes are exciting and filled with well contrived traps, mind-stimulating puzzles and gruesome resolutions, but Saw V fails in many more places than it succeeds.

The characters were hit and miss in this installment. One of the major flaws was that all of the fan favorites either died, or died off much too quickly, where they weren't even close to fulfilling their potential, or fully revealing their back story. For example, the main puzzle in the movie was comprised of four consecutive rooms, each having one puzzle, which upon successful completion, unlocks the next room and puzzle. Sounds easy right? Not with Jigsaw behind the helm. However, lucky for the five strangers that wake up in the first room with cables and a collar around their necks, Jigsaw always gives his victims a "chance." However misleading this may be, these strangers were brought together for a reason unbeknownst to them at first, but only chance for survival is to play the game and survive. As per usual, each of the five people led immoral and unethical lives, each blessed with privileged lives filled with greed and selfishness. Will five become one?

Deceivingly, Saw V starts out with well contrived, though expected, puzzles from Jigsaw that increase in gruesomeness with each sequel (Which by the way has desensitized me to every other horror movie). Unfortunately, these elaborate, but yet aesthetically pleasing puzzles are too few and far between as most of the content is focused around Agent Strahm and Det. Hoffman, which has the personality of a... Who am I kidding, he doesn't have a personality. With the remaining time focused on the five greed-stricken victims with their hands full of Jigsaw's puzzles, little is actually revealed about their pasts. What history that is articulated is somewhat inane and really leaves the audience wanting to know more about them and their misdeeds.

Saw V Movie Review from Bad Sphinx

From the trailer, culminating in the quote, "You won't believe how it ends," suggests that Saw V reveals unanswered questions, finishes with an unforeseeable end, and/or brings an end to the series all together. Arguably, you will be very disappointed if you were expecting answers, because with the few questions that are answered, more questions are raised and Jigsaw looks like he will make another visit Halloween 2009.

- Zack and Miri Make a Porno   Seth Rogan is back at it again, this time making a porno. Despite having a great premise, cast and dialogue, the film fails delivering just a bit at the end
