Bond is back again, but this time to rid the world of….a water draught?
Daniel Craig is back as Bond again, but this time in “Quantum of Solace.” With “Casino Royale” being a Bond masterpiece, audiences, like usual, were expecting a bigger and better Bond than last time. However, this time, instead of battling and fending off terrorists from destroying an airplane, hence making the stock prices plummet, Bond is fending off…ahem…a possible water draught…I honestly wish I could tell you to go see the “Quantum of Solace” because it successfully succeeds “Casino Royale” as yet another classic addition to the Bond collection, but I would flat out be lying. The hardest facet of “Quantum of Solace” for me to stomach is not the acting, because Daniel Craig was amazing, but the lack of both realism and vision on the part of the director. For obvious reasons, I will not name certain scenes because I do not want to give out any spoilers, but do not be surprised if you find yourself saying, “Are you serious?” multiple times throughout “Quantum of Solace.”
This is actually one of the few films were everything comes together perfectly. It was the role Keanu Reeves was born to play, while being terrifically supported by Jennifer Connelly. The script, story line and CGI were all top-notch as “The Day the Earth Stood Still” delivered flawlessly in each category. However, the only downfall of the movie, and it is really more of a flaw in society than in the movie, is the fact that it may just be a little too hard to comprehend for most. For instance, before I saw the movie, I had an entirely different understanding of the definition of the title, as opposed to its meaning I perceived after I saw it. And by no means is this a bad thing. “The Day the Earth Stood Still” is extremely thought-provoking and if those types of movies intrigue you, you are in for a treat.
If there is one positive to take away from “Quantum of Solace,” it is the acting. Daniel Craig plays Bond perfectly yet again. Although most viewers disagreed with the path that Bond’s character as a whole took throughout the movie, that is the screenplay’s department and Craig does not have much control over that. With that said, if you are just an avid Daniel Craig follower, with an indifferent view of the Bond storyline, you will most likely be the only ones walking away from “Quantum of Solace” with any type of satisfaction whatsoever.
With the positive, and yes it is singular, mentioned, let us move onto the shortcomings. I could spend all day on this facet of “Quantum of Solace,” but it would just be beating a dead horse, so I will mention the key points. Right off the bat, the Bond girls are absolutely horrible. If that is not bad enough, Bond makes no attempt throughout the entire movie to exhibit his charm and is strictly driven by rage. Love Bond gadgets? I know I do, but not in “Quantum of Solace” because there are none. What about the elaborate plots backed by memorable villains? Forget about it unless you think Bond joining the Peace Corps and battling against an environmental geek is entertaining.
What is so frustrating about “Quantum of Solace” is the simple fact that all of its shortcomings could have been easily rectified through good, even mediocre, directing and screenplay. It is extremely transparent that the producers were just trying to cash in on the Bond name without even making a remote attempt to satisfy their audience. However, if you are a die-hard Bond enthusiast, by all means go and see “Quantum of Solace”, but do not be surprised when all of the aforementioned complaints manifest themselves before your very eyes. If you are like the rest of us, an avid action movie lover, you will unfortunately be very disappointed.
- Saw V
. . . just like Hollywood actresses, it may look enticing and intriguing on the outside, but after spending a few minutes with it, it not only goes down hill, it skydives like the DOW.
- Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Seth Rogan is back at it again, this time making a porno. Despite having a great premise, cast and dialogue, the film fails delivering just a bit at the end
